Catechists are kept informed of developments in Religious Education and Diocesan Guidelines. Teachers attend classes to obtain certification. This Scripture based program is not only a time for learning about the faith but also to socialize with other parish children.

  •          Education Committee

Purpose: The Education Committee has as its mission to foster a healthy Christian environment for every member of our parish through a deeper understanding of Scripture, Church teaching and our cultural heritage. The goals of the committee are to heighten awareness of Sacred Scriptures, promote Church teachings on the Pastoral letters of American and African American Bishops and to develop partnership between adults and teens.

Logistics: The group meets monthly.

  •          Evangelization Ministry

Purpose: The Evangelization Ministry has as its mission to spread the Word of God to the Hill District and beyond, following Jesus command in Matthew 28:18. The members write follow up letters to all visitors who come to our parish and sign the guest book.

They have a tape ministry, which records the mass and makes tapes available to parish shut-ins and others.  This ministry reaches out to the members of the parish through prayer breakfast, to Catholic African Americans incarcerated at Allegheny County jail through letters of spiritual encouragement, and to parish shut-ins through apostolic visits where they bring communion to those unable to come to Church and keep parish informed of the needs of the shut-ins. This committee also manages the showcase in the back of the Church, which sells Bibles and Religious icons. The Rosary is said each Friday morning following the 8:00 a.m. Mass for divine healing for those aftlicted with HIV / AIDS. A prayer service is also held at other times for parishioners and African Americans in the Hill District and beyond.

Logistics: For more information call the Parish Office.
